John 3:16 (KJV)
GIFTS RECEIVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
Many people, including those who attended church for many years, don't know know much about the Holy Spirt. Therefore, here is some basic information regarding the Third of the Trinity.
Prior to Jesus' arrest, in John 14:16, Jesus is speaking to his Disciples and says: "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever--" (Amp). This bible verse gives us a clear picture of Who the Holy Spirit is and His role.
Just before Jesus ascended into Heaven (after spending 40 days with His disciples after rising from the dead) Acts 1:4-5 states "And while being in their company and eating with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for what the Father had promised, Of which [He said] you have heard Me speak. For John baptized with water, but not many days from now you shall be baptized with (placed in, introduced into) the Holy Spirit." (Amp). Later, as Acts 2:4 reads "And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit...)".
Today, the Holy Ghost fills us at the time of our salvation. You probably don't feel differently, but He is there. The power of the Holy Spirit is awesome. Any time you need help, you can just ask the Holy Spirit for help, wisdom, revelation, etc. He will give you strength (physical, mental and emotional). When you are about to do, or say, something, you may even hear Him whisper in your ear something like, "you better not do that", "you need to keep your mouth shut right now", or even "you better quit driving this car so fast". Once you really start to listen, you'll hear a lot, and will quickly think "how did I ever try to do anything without help from Jesus?!"
The Holy Spirit, also known as The Third of the Trinity, has extraordinary gifts that He can give as He chooses. He may give one or more of these powers to any individual. The gifts you could receive from the Holy Ghost are:
- the power to speak a message of wisdom
- the power to express a word of knowledge and understanding
- the power of healing
- the power of working miracles
- the power of prophetic insight
- the power of ability to distinguish between true and false spirits
- the power of speaking in tongues
- the power to interpret those tongues
